The Sasol Solar Challenge

In August, the Agoria Solar Team left for South Africa with their solar car, the BluePoint Atlas. This month they will participate with it in the Sasol Solar Challenge, a race of more than 4,000 kilometres.

The Sasol Solar Challenge will take place from Friday 9 to Friday 16 September in South Africa, between Johannesburg and Cape Town. Student teams from all over the world will be challenged here to cover as much distance as possible in 8 days on solar energy. It is the longest competition the Belgian team will participate in so far, where both reliability and strategy will play an important role.

We’re proud to sponsor this team in their amazing endeavour and wish them all the best! Last year they took a well-deserved second place, but this year we’re sure they will finish first.

In preparation for this race, the team set a new world record with their solar car two months ago. They drove 1051 kilometres in 12 hours, improving the record by 127 kilometres.

But before they embark on this adventure, let’s take a look back at how it all started.
